Sketches of Spain
Sketches of Spain by Miles Davis, released in 1960.
When early afternoon light hits the buildings of manhattan, passages from this album come to mind. I don't often put on/slip into this calming, pensive collection of orchestral jazz sorcery, but whenever I do, it provides me with a feeling I'm only able to describe with contradiction: it shepherds me away from reality in a warm haze while, somehow making me more present and durable in the tempests of life that make me reach for this on my shelf.
